Executive Member of CUBO, Director of Accommodation Services, University of Edinburgh
Richard Kington has been Director of Accommodation Services at the University of Edinburgh since 2003. The University currently houses over 8500 students, the majority in University owned accommodation, and has nearly 1600 more student rooms for postgraduate use at design stage or under construction. Over 100 different nationalities live in University accommodation including 80% of first year undergraduates and 60% of International postgraduates.
Accommodation Services is at the forefront of the further development of Residence Life in the UK. Learning from colleagues overseas residential support for students is constantly expanding. A range of programmes are offered as students settle into a vibrant International community, to support them in their academic endeavours and to help prepare them for their move into the private sector.
Trading as Edinburgh First, Accommodation Services also operate an extensive year round commercial accommodation, catering and events business with Pollock Halls in the summer becoming a 2000 bed hotel.
Richard is the lead for International Affiliations on the Executive of CUBO (College and University Business Officers) and was instrumental in CUBO affiliating with Acuho-I in 2010. He became Chair elect of the Acuho-I Membership Committee in July 2014 and at the 2014 annual Acuho-I Conference in Washington DC he received the Roelf Visser Global initiatives Award.
